WUNDERLAND in Gerolzhofen – VERANTEC Behind the Scenes of a Multimedia Theater Experience

Four days of performances, 80 years of history, over 100 participants – and a technical setup that shines behind the scenes.

For the major project “WUNDERLAND,” a historical revue by the Kleines Stadttheater Gerolzhofen e. V., we at VERANTEC handled the technical implementation for five shows from September 11 to 14, 2025. Our mission was to make the multimedia production of German post-war history in an open-air format on the swimming pool lawn of the Geomaris technically feasible.

A special project deserves special preparation

We were part of the project long before the first round of applause. Our commitment to technical precision was particularly evident in the construction of the spectator grandstand:

  • A soil analysis was required for the grandstand to precisely calculate the static load-bearing capacity of the subsoil directly next to a river.
  • We supported the preliminary planning with expertise and foresight to ensure the smooth coordination of all trades.
  • The stage construction was also closely coordinated with our technical design.

Stage, Sound, Lighting, LED – Technology with Dramatic Impact

The revue “WUNDERLAND” brings German history from 1945 to the present to the stage—through dramatic scenes, music, choreography, and projections. Our technical implementation was an integral part of the experience.

Our services at a glance:

  • Grandstand made of 30 tons of Layher on a 20x50m area with seating for 1,200 people
  • Sound technology to allow every seat to follow the performance, as well as 45 wireless microphone channels for actors and actresses – each role received its own microphone on an assigned frequency
  • Lighting technology for atmospheric illumination of the scenes in an open-air setting
  • LED technology including a large LED wall for displaying video sequences, animations, and historical documents
  • LED trailer with live broadcast for additional visibility
  • Complete technical support on site throughout all four performance days

The interplay of acting, music, video, and original texts required technical support that not only functioned but also contributed to the dramatic vision.

Technology with sensitivity

Behind the scenes, everything ran down to the second.
Direction, makeup, sound, and lighting worked together seamlessly.
When the choir began in one of the final scenes and the audience fell silent, our team also experienced that goosebump moment. In moments like these, it becomes clear just how much technology contributes to the atmosphere without pushing itself into the foreground.

Theater that endures – and technology that supports it

“WUNDERLAND” was more than just a play. It was a journey through time, a political statement, and a collaborative project with tremendous impact. It was an honor for us to provide technical support for this extraordinary project.
